Fast Start
The Game is straightforward enough to begin playing immediately. You can forego any further explanations described in this rulebook. The fundamental Gameplay is the movement of attention, and its resulting action is called a Reset-Enquiry.
Reset – Attention comes to the present moment. When attention rests on no object in Awareness, that is the present. You will have achieved Reset when there is no thought within that space where thought occurs. This takes only a moment, and the absence of thought may be only for a moment.
Enquiry – Asking a question in the form of what action can be taken to serve a small group of humans to whom your Character belongs. Typical groups might be family, work group, or club and typically have less than 90 human members.
The form of a well-balanced question will look like; “What shall be done to serve <my group> given my skills in <chosen area of interest.>
Asking a well-balanced question comes with experience. The chosen area of interest can be a deeply developed skill you have or new area of interest. A specific example for a person who has just picked up the guitar and is a member of a reading club could be, “What action shall be taken to serve the Reading Club given my skills in playing guitar?”
Turns and Sessions – A turn is seven days; a session is seven turns. The Player plays as many sessions as possible.
Scoring – Player gets one point for each Reset-Enquiry. Player also gets five points for telling someone about the Eudaimonia Game. A manual Score Sheet is provided in Appendix 1to illustrate the tracking. It is assumed in this day of apps, spreadsheets, and services the Player will create a customized version.
Reminders and Completion – A skilled Player sets reminders to trigger the conduct of Reset-Enquiry, be they mobile phone alarms, mnemonic devices, sticky notes on refrigerators, etc. The same enquiry should be used for the entire session. Dropping an enquiry and pursuing another is allowed though not recommended. If this becomes necessary, the Player must begin at Turn 1 for the new enquiry. Thirty-five points per turn is a target minimum score. Higher scores are possible and encouraged.
You now have enough instruction to begin playing the Eudaimonia Game.
